Nikolaus Weiler is a contemporary German sculptor. He lives and works in his studio in Berlin since 1994. In his work, he focuses on the representation of space and body from all perspectives with the aim of creating an objective sculpture in the field of tension between dynamics, movement, rhythm and change. The sculptures are made of metal and wood. The sheets of stainless steel, aluminum or steel are cut and bent into shape and then firmly attached to the wood. This allows their properties to complement and stabilize each other. The all-dimensional sculptures are a special group of works. They are created in a constructive development process in which spaces and bodies expand in all directions, both inward and outward into their surroundings. An all-dimensional sculpture can be represented on different sides. In doing so, it vividly changes its spatial appearance and expression. It can appear weightless, static, dynamic, rhythmic, or architectural. The surfaces of the different materials open up endless paths through space. The metal surfaces reflect light and the surroundings and convey light, space, and lightness. The wooden surfaces, on the other hand, absorb light and suggest materiality and depth. All surfaces are finely sanded and protected with primers. Finally, they are preserved and refined with Renaissance polishing wax. Each sculpture is unique.
