ABOUT THE ARTWORK

The work "human cubes 222" consists of over 222 cubes made of lime wood. Each individual cube was precisely sawed to size by Manfred Hellweger, the edges sanded and connected to the next cube with beechwood dowels, glue and clamps. A 1mm stainless steel cable serves as the suspension of the sculpture in the steel frame. Similar to the sculpture series "human flow" or "human nails", Hellweger also creates a whole from many individual parts. Each cube stands for a thought, an emotion, or a feeling in the life of a person. The steel frame with base was waxed and polished to prevent oxidation. Dimensions steel frame with base: 173 x 85 x 40cm Dimensions sculpture: 124 x 28 x 20cm Total weight of the artwork: 37 Kg All sculptures by Manfred Hellweger are unique.

CREATIVE PROCESS AND INSPIRATION Manfred Hellweger questions the meaning and value of existence, the world and humanity. His distinctive sculptures are mainly made of wood, metal and stone. Hellweger uses simple shapes such as cubes, strips, boards, nails or shaped tubes. Using a variety of techniques, the individual parts are connected to create mostly figurative works that taper towards the base. Through this process, Manfred Hellweger's sculptures evoke a sense of vertical dissolution, symbolizing the perpetual change of our time. Everything changes and develops, nothing remains the same. Each piece embodies Hellweger's credo, “less of everything rather than more”, reflecting a philosophy of simplicity and contentment that extends beyond art.
