ABOUT THE ARTWORK

In the human flow series, this is the first metal sculpture by Manfred Hellweger. This consists of 5mm square steel, which was connected by the artist using targeted welding points. The cavities between the bars provide a glimpse into the interior, and in some cases you can even see completely through them. “Human flow” was derived from the aphorism of the Greek natural philosopher Heraclitus of Ephesus: “Pantha rhei” - everything flows. Just as the water in the stream is always in motion, all things, living beings and phenomena in the world are always changing. Everything changes and develops, nothing stays the same. “IJIRAQ” comes from Greek mythology and is the name of one of the 146 known moons of Saturn. The entire surface was treated with hydrochloric acid to obtain a uniform oxidation layer.

CREATIVE PROCESS AND INSPIRATION Manfred Hellweger questions the meaning and value of existence, the world and humanity. His distinctive sculptures are mainly made of wood, metal and stone. Hellweger uses simple shapes such as cubes, strips, boards, nails or shaped tubes. Using a variety of techniques, the individual parts are connected to create mostly figurative works that taper towards the base. Through this process, Manfred Hellweger's sculptures evoke a sense of vertical dissolution, symbolizing the perpetual change of our time. Everything changes and develops, nothing remains the same. Each piece embodies Hellweger's credo, “less of everything rather than more”, reflecting a philosophy of simplicity and contentment that extends beyond art.
