BIOGRAPHY Aris Petridis (b. 1979, Athens, Greece) is a Greek sculptor whose work explores the human form through abstraction, flow, and structural balance. Before dedicating himself to sculpture, Petridis had a long career in athletics as a member of the Greek national track and field team in the 100m sprint. For over 15 years, he competed at an international level, earning multiple distinctions, including five gold medals in Panhellenic Championships and five gold medals in Balkan Championships, as well as high rankings in Mediterranean and World Championships. He holds a degree in Physical Education and Sport Science from the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens. His transition from athletics to sculpture informs his artistic language, where movement, tension, and equilibrium remain central elements. Working primarily with cement, Petridis develops sculptural compositions through flowing, ribbon-like forms that suggest the human figure without fully defining it. His work focuses on continuity, emotion, and the relationship between mass and void, often creating a sense of suspended motion and inner balance. His sculptures have been presented in group exhibitions in Greece and internationally, including Athens, Norway, and Istanbul. In 2023, he was awarded First Prize in Sculpture at the Art Awards held at the War Museum of Athens.
