About the Artist

Elisa Paulina Herrmann

United States

I am a textile artist and fashion designer from Germany, currently based in Brooklyn, NY. My work is deeply inspired by traditional craft techniques such as crochet, knitting, and embroidery, which I reinterpret through a contemporary lens.

This approach results in a body of work I call BUBBLES, soft sculptures and soft paintings that invite tactile engagement. The haptic quality of my work is central as I want people to feel the urge to touch and to connect with the pieces.

Since 2014 I have been creating textile-based objects,
but I have been exploring different crafts since I was a child, always knitting, crocheting and making things with my hands, trying to connect material storytelling with childhood memories and playful form. This is also inspired by my background working as a knitwear designer in luxury fashion, brands I worked for include Vivienne Westwood, Gucci and Marc Jacobs.

I’m currently open to commissions.
