Music, specifically Pop Music plays a pivotal part in my creative process. I hone in on both the lyrics and movement of the words as they are played out in a song visualizing shape and form, presenting a back and forth dialogue between objects. My primary medium is porcelain, which allows me to work organically, adding or removing clay during the building process. I finish my work by firing to Cone 6 in an electric kiln and sandblasting the glazed surfaces which not only adds design and texture but creates a visual partnership between the pieces. Recently i spent a great deal of time listening to Paul Simon's you can call me al; both the song and the video became my daily mantra reminding me to retain my sense of humor, while dealing with a tense no win situation. I wanted to make a work that captured both the lightheartedness of the video juxtaposed with the much deeper lyrical content. After countless playbacks I decided to incorporate both hard and soft edges in this work; employ a black glaze that I sandblasted at different levels to give more depth and really make the extreme area pop. Thrown and Altered Cone 6 Porcelain, Oxidation Fired This work was in the 10th Annual Visions In Clay exhibition at the Horton Art Gallery San Joaquin Delta College, Stockton, California juror Nancy Selvin and is currently on display at the San Angelo Museum of Fine Arts 24th Annual National Ceramic Competition, San Angelo, Texas juror James Watkins

I explore the complexities of interpersonal relationships; specifically the spatial and supposed interaction between two or more persons caught in a single moment of time. Through the process of breaking down and deconstructing the figure into smaller more intimate aspects of a bodies posture the emphasis is redirected to the non descript area between, creating a permanent shifting state of tension.
