"Sculptor of light on canvas" - Arthur Brigg is a South African painter whose landscapes and seascapes are distinguished by the use of fluorescent pigments that create the illusion of natural light. Sunsets glow, waves shimmer and reflections come alive, giving traditional landscape painting an unexpected contemporary dimension.
I left school in standard 9 (grade 11) and joined the Cape Technical College where I obtained my matric distinction but also studied extra subjects such as fine Art, life drawing, pottery, poetry, creative writing and oil painting. The portfolio from those studies catapulted me into the Cape Technicon where I decided to pursue a degree in graphic design. Eventually I ended up as a lecturer of advertising in my early 30's, became dissilussioned with the industry, and moved into catering (food is an art too!). I painted on and off in my garage, but never pursued it professionally until 2018.
Many, but all at small galleries and private venues in various small towns or cities such as Cape Town, Swellendam, Struisbaai, various Karoo towns and at my home town, Barrydale.
2019 exhibition sold out at the Winchester Hotel, then lock downs.
2021 art fair Cape Town CTTIC
2022 to 2024 Swellendam Gallery, Bruise Gallery, Artery Gallery, Kingsbridge Gallery. I also participated in art meanders and events in various Karoo and seaside towns such as Agullhas and Struisbaai.
2025 pulled all my artwork from galleries and started my own gallery on Route62 in Barrydale, South Africa.
