Jamila Asadova was born in Baku, Azerbaijan, in 1969. In 1993, she graduated from the Baku Conservatory, Department of Composition. Since 1998, she has been living and working in Turkey, where she worked at Istanbul University as a ballet accompanist and piano teacher.
A self-taught artist, Asadova began painting over a decade ago and gradually developed her own distinctive visual language influenced by her musical background. Rhythm, contrast, emotional tension, and movement play a central role in her works, where layered textures and symbolic forms create psychologically charged atmospheres.
She actively participates in exhibitions held in Turkey and continues to develop contemporary conceptual series exploring themes of power, fragility, time, conflict, and human decision-making. Her recent chess-inspired works transform the structure of the game into a symbolic reflection on the instability of modern existence.
Contrasts between darkness and light, silence and movement, destruction and control remain at the core of her artistic vision.
