EDUCATION
Elisa Munari’s artistic practice is rooted in contemporary lyrical abstraction, where color becomes a medium for inner exploration and perceptual transformation.
Through a layered, fluid and gestural approach, she creates suspended spaces between landscape and vision, where natural elements — water, light, and vegetation — emerge and dissolve into a non-representational, experiential dimension.
Her works do not depict places, but states of consciousness: energetic fields in which the viewer is invited to immerse, activating a subtle dialogue between perception, emotion, and memory.
In this sense, painting becomes both threshold and passage — a visual device capable of generating resonance, presence, and inner openness.
“Crossing the Visible”
In Elisa Munari’s work, landscape is never a place to recognize, but a space to enter.
Her paintings unfold within a subtle threshold where vision shifts from representation to experience. Through fluid layers, chromatic depth, and organic marks, she constructs suspended environments in which water, light, and vegetal forms are not depicted, but sensed as evolving presences.
The pictorial surface opens as a vibrating field — not an image to observe, but a perceptual space to inhabit. Wit...
Artist Biography
I am a self-taught artist working within the field of contemporary lyrical abstraction, where color becomes both language and frequency. I began painting at the age of 13 and bring over 30 years of experience as a painter and decorator, moving across a wide range of techniques and styles.
For more than 15 years, I worked as an artisan artist, creating commissioned environments using trompe l’oeil techniques. From hyperrealistic painting, my practice gradually evolved beyond representation, arriving at a more fluid and intuitive abstract language.
Today, I primarily work with acrylics, building layered, luminous surfaces through gesture and transparency. My works do not depict places, but states of consciousness—vibrational fields in which color acts as presence, inviting immersion and resonance.
Painting, for me, is a threshold—an experience of passage. My work seeks to create space for inner connection, offering not an image to observe, but an encounter to inhabit.
I live and work in my studio in Scandiano, Italy.
