Aurelia Feral

I am a visual artist with Andalusian roots, based in Valencia. After a professional career in engineering, architecture and occupational health and safety, I turned to painting, where I found a way to express my concerns and share my understanding of the world.

I work with watercolour and ink, using an expressive, figurative and symbolic visual language. My work explores fragility, desire, anguish, loneliness and the tensions within human relationships. Through bodies, animals and everyday objects, I create visual metaphors and paradoxes in which the familiar becomes strange.

My artistic world also includes images that offer support: points of anchorage that nurture positive emotions, evoke calm or keep something comforting close at hand. I am interested in how a work can become a companion to its viewer and take on a meaning of its own.

In my process, intention coexists with chance. I begin with an idea, an experience or a question, allowing water, pigment and gesture to shape its development. Transparencies, drips and open forms retain traces of this dialogue with the materials.
