My art springs from a simple question: Who am I, really? As a teenager I fell afoul of the law, and in that dark phase a spiritual search gripped me and changed everything. Since then, the search for origin, creation, and the meaning of it all has not let me go — and that is precisely what flows into my paintings.

I paint quietly and clearly, often outdoors. My subjects may appear simple, but they hold something that runs deeper. Take the Garden of Gethsemane — a place full of loneliness, fear, and choice, yet one that can be entered with calm. Or the moment a Tibetan monk looked into my eyes for minutes instead of simply posing for a photograph. Moments like these are sources from which my work arises.

I see myself as a kind of artistic monk. For me, art and spirituality belong together. I do not pretend to have understood anything — far from it. I comb through religions, ask questions, and keep searching. My paintings are not answers; they are traces of that search.

What I hope for is that my works invite the viewer to ask some of these big questions themselves — not in a heavy, over-intellectual way, but with openness and curiosity.
