Ayana Ross (b. 1977) a representational artist whose work draws upon themes that encompass my identity, cultural awareness and family history rooted in the American South. Her work explores narratives that highlight racial disparities and are telling of African American intergenerational mobility and progress.
Although this thread of exploration started within her family circle, it has proven to reflect a greater connection of shared experiences, values and aesthetics. The artwork creates the visual narrative of fragmented stories that leaves room for the viewer to insert themselves, to perhaps illuminate some parallel or intersecting experience. By engaging in such an exchange of dialogue, she hopes the past can help to inform the present.
In addition to holding a BS in Design and Merchandising from Georgia Southern University, and a MA in Liberal Arts from University of North Carolina – Greensboro, Ayana will be receiving an MA degree in Painting from Savannah College of Art and Design.
