About Ayse Sirin Budak

Born and raised in Istanbul, Ayse Sirin Budak is a self-taught artist who currently pursues her passion for art at her home studio in New York.

What most strikes about her works is the use of ‘color’. She considers color to be an instrument that served a greater purpose, which was to evoke our most basic emotions, and makes sure the color she uses becomes the subject in itself.

She mainly creates in mixed media, mostly acrylic, natural ink and fabric on cotton paper or linen canvas. She emphasizes the concept of 'wabi sabi', the beauty of imperfection which is the reason she is naturally drawn to work with handmade cotton papers, Lokta papers, Dastar fabrics, and raw canvases; for their distinctive uniqueness and imperfect textures.
