About Brenda Cirioni
Growing up on a dead end dirt road in a small coastal village I experienced a deep connection with the natural world. My paintings explore the tension between nature and the elements, destruction and regeneration, exuberance and impermanence. My art speaks about power, grace and transformation in a world of uncertainty. Several years ago I began adding collage elements to my paintings. I like the surprise these elements add to my work - a smashed can, a feather. My marks and textures create a richness and solidity to the imagery. I create the composition using charcoal and paint. I draw, splatter and drip with ink and paint; then I enlarge on the composition with my various oddments. My method of layering and juxtaposing disparate materials draws attention to the multiplicities and mysteries of nature and life.
As a child, I took painting classes from two different exceptional artists -a watercolorist and an oil painter. There was never a doubt as to what I wanted to be as I grew up. I attended the School of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, MA for five years receiving their diploma for studio art and a Fifth Year Certificate. Painting is my passion.
I am pleased to be part of the Art of Dining portion of the Art Collector Maine and Kennebunkport Festival for the second year this summer. The festival raises money for Full Plates, Full Potential directly benefiting school children in Maine.
My art can be seen at my studio in Maynard, MA, as well as Renjeau Gallery in Natick, MA, Gallery North Star in Grafton, VT, Portland Art Gallery in Portland, ME and Gallery at the Grand in Kennebunk, ME.
