I work mainly in the mediums of collage and altered books.
In my collage work I attempt to push the practice out of its traditional realm. I create hand cut analog pieces that are both abstract and representational. Much of what I do is process oriented set on self-imposed guidelines (ie. only creating work from a specific collection of images or melding two pages with similar layouts). I've created a number of series based on various guidelines.
My altered book work consists of creating biblio-excavations out of discarded textbooks and how-to manuals. I select specific images and remove all the extraneous text. What remains is a three dimensional collage of imagery which was ever-present in the book. I seal the text block shut so that only the front cover opens. This creates easy storage for the piece with the rest of your library when it is not on display.
