Benjamin Salley

My work mixes the past with the present, exploring modern life through figurative painting. Juxtaposing traditional and modern elements. My technique uses glazing that layer transparent paint layer upon paint layer to give skin tones an inner glow not possible with direct painting methods. This method is then married to a contemporary aesthetic using modern color palettes, graphic elements and occasionally sculptural elements. These techniques are accomplished using non toxic and solvent free materials.
I am a Louisiana native who spent over a decade in NYC working in the film and television industry working in lighting. Following New York I made a move to Los Angles where I was the Managing Director of Jim Carrey’s art studio for over a year. I currently live and work in Kentucky.
