About Bertie Fritsch

I’m a multi-disciplinary artist based in Edinburgh with a background in music, design, and sound engineering. I work across a range of mediums and technologies including installation, sound, video, design, engineering, and painting. My current series of oil paintings represents reflective interior spaces, thresholds and viewpoints which invoke a sense of spaciousness and inner peace.

I primarily paint atmospheric and architectural spaces from memory, photographs and the imagination. I apply various textures, layers and technical qualities to the painted surface to evoke a sense of dimension, acoustic, sound and light properties. These paintings are often framed from a filmic viewpoint, incorporating reflective surfaces and counterintuitive perspectives. The paintings sit between realism and impressionism and often include characteristic elements from the artist’s background, as well as occasional playful abstraction.
