“ Subverting the functional into aesthetic
– vase into sculpture, purpose into design –
while endlessly refining silhouettes.”
I always saw my ceramics more as sculptures than vases, to be honest. My process is not about function first—it is about form. The way I trim my clay on the wheel is purely to refine the silhouette, shaping each piece with the precision of a sculptor. I choose clay as a medium but it could have been wood, glass or stone..
Since the beginning of my practice, my main focus was sculpting the clay, the form being always more important than function— aesthetic win.
