There was not a time in my life that I was not a photographer. In high school, I spent weekends camping and backpacking the Sierras with a Nikkormat around my neck. Alternate weekends would be spent in my darkroom developing and printing. My university degree is in Bio-Scientific Photography made my first job possible, I worked as Senior Medical Photographer at a major medical center in San Francisco. Eventually opportunity knocked and I leaped at owning and operating photo labs in San Francisco. On site I had a studio where took portraits and did tabletop commercial images. At present I shoot events and nature.
A photo, an image, is visual poetry to me. A statement is made, a moment is captured in time.
A well composed image is a statement containing all the components of a grammatically correct sentence. It will contain a subject, object, verb, adjective, and end with a period. The compositional form, the verb, of an image draws the viewer in with direction toward the subject. The contrasts and densities, the negative spaces, direct the viewer toward the subject.
