Julboi Torculas

I am a Filipino oil painter based in Cagayan de Oro, Mindanao, Philippines. My work aims to share the experience of being present in a place, or in the presence of a subject.

Rivers, forests, mountains, and rural landscapes are what inspire my work. Through oil painting, I try to capture these experiences and share their total sense with the viewer. I know a painting can never fully recreate what it feels like to actually be there, but that is what I keep reaching for. I do this not by reproducing every detail, but by focusing on the light, color, and atmosphere that made the experience memorable.

Before pursuing painting full-time, I worked for more than a decade as a mechanical engineer. Today, I paint full-time and continue to find inspiration in the landscapes and people around me.
