Branko Ugrin

I was born in Croatia, in the city of Split, and has been living and working there ever since.

Although formally educated as a mathematician I paint since I can remember.

As a self-taught artist, I was influenced by many artists, but the greatest source of inspiration for my work is the beauty of the Mediterranean landscape.

My paintings are an abstract interpretation of magical colors and lights of the Mediterranean.

The large format of the canvas allows me to explore through the stroke of a brush in the uncontrolled playfulness of the form the glow of the southern sun, the struggle of light and darkness, the play of strong contrasts.

Dissolution of form in favor of color for me means releasing pure energy, life awakening, the beauty of life.
