I grew up on the prairies of Alberta but always felt a particular pull towards the mountains, ocean and warmer weather so after pursuing a career in Criminology, and raising a set of identical twin boys I moved to BC in 2009 and felt inspired. I realized my one true regret in life was putting my art aside for so long, so with the encouragement of my family, I took the initiative and began devoting myself to painting full time and haven't looked back!
After leaving such a stressful career, I felt it was necessary to re-evaluate what I focused on, what I attracted into my life and if my creativity can inspire and bring happiness to others then I feel my life has meaning.
In 2015, I opened Ellis Art Studios, a 6000sq ft fine art facility located downtown Kelowna that utilizes a mentor–apprentice model to prepares artists, emerging or professional to develop their art and design skills. We offer world class visual art/design–based workshop programs, consulting services, professional art supplies, custom framing and affordable studio work space to help others become successful in the art world.
As a child it became apparent that I had the innate aptitude for drawing so was mentored in numerous classes at the Edmonton Art Gallery where I was eventually encouraged to attend high school at the newly developed Victoria School of Performing and Visual Arts. There I was able to hone my talents by receiving formal training in fine art, set design and construction.
I later enrolled in the BA Criminology Program at the University of Alberta and was given special permission to take Art Fundamentals as a component of my degree and concentrated on painting, printmaking, sculpture and drawing.
I've achieved active status with the Federation of Canadian Artists (FCA) and have been fortunate enough to have my artwork collected by prominent celebrities and have sold my work internationally as well as been highlighted in numerous juried exhibitions, local art shows and galleries.
