Brigitte Wawoe

Brigitte Wawoe (1939) was born in Heidelberg, Germany.
Her relationship with art started at a very early age, thanks to her father, artist and architect. After her studies in art and philosophy, at Heidelberg University, she taught art, German and philosophy in Caracas, Venezuela for three years.
She lived in Curaçao from 1967 till 1978. During that period, she learned to understand the island and developed a special relation with it and the Table Mountain. After living in London for two years, and attending post-graduate courses at Moreley College, she moved to the Netherlands, where she still lives. She returns to Curaçao regularly to continue her work in the quarry of the Table Mountain Mining Company, where she creates most of her marble and calcite crystal sculptures. In Holland she also uses other materials: marble, dolomite, serpentine, travertine, etc. She also works in bronze.
Although she is a sculptress, she is always interested in further development of herself and her talents. Over the years she has mastered other techniques like painting and glass art. She is a versatile artist, using not only a wide range of techniques, materials and forms but also always looking out for other methods or a different approach. A...
