Bruce Abrams is a Washington, DC–based painter, printmaker, and sculptor. Through his Rogues' Gallery, he explores the characters and micro-dramas of nightlife and everyday urban encounters—bartenders, musicians, late-night philosophers, and the moments caught between sips, glances, and gestures. Defined by strong linework, saturated color, and recurring figures, his work forms a cohesive visual universe across paintings, prints, and sculpture.
After a thirty-year career with USAID and the U.S. Foreign Service, Abrams returned to art full time, drawing on experiences living throughout Latin America, Africa, and the Middle East. He studied with local artists, exhibited internationally, and continues to develop a body of work centered on the stories people create together in public spaces.
Self-taught.
Studied painting and printmaking with local artists while living in Latin America, Africa, and the Middle East during a career with USAID and the U.S. Foreign Service.
Additional study includes:
Bronze casting and printmaking in Bogotá, Colombia
Design and printmaking in Lima, Peru
Stone sculpture in Zimbabwe
Printmaking residency at La Ceiba Gráfica, Veracruz, Mexico
Paper mâché sculpture in Mexico City
