Bryan An

I’m a Sydney-based artist working primarily in oil and acrylic. My paintings explore relationships, human behaviour and the feelings that sit beneath everyday life.

I’m drawn to small moments—a gesture, a conversation, or the way two figures share a space. These become starting points for paintings where familiar scenes take an unexpected turn. Through expressive figures, bold colour and carefully arranged compositions, I leave room for viewers to bring their own stories to the work.

My background in film post-production, animation and art direction continues to shape how I think about light, space and storytelling. Alongside my figurative work, I paint landscapes and abstracts, exploring how colour and rhythm can convey a sense of place or mood.

In 2026, I was selected as a finalist in both the National Emerging Art Prize and the Hornsby Art Prize. My work was also exhibited at Affordable Art Fair Melbourne with Ground Space Gallery.
