An exploration of personal transformation, feminine identity, and the visceral experience of the body. Mariana Briukhanova’s paintings are spaces where physical form and emotion intertwine.
Mariana Briukhanova is a contemporary Ukrainian artist (b. 1980, Mykolaiv). Until 2022, she lived and worked in Odesa, where she received an academic education in painting and art history. Following the outbreak of the full-scale war, she was forced to relocate and currently lives and works in Europe.
At the heart of her artistic practice are states of crisis, transition, and becoming—an investigation into how external circumstances are reflected in a person’s psychological and physical experience. Her visual language is formed at the intersection of figurative and abstract art, where recurring figures and archetypal imagery serve as tools to explore the tension between social roles and the inner world.
Mariana’s works have been exhibited in solo and group exhibitions in Ukraine and abroad, including international biennials. Her pieces are held in museum and private collections across the USA, Canada, the UK, France, Thailand, and Ukraine.
