While making art, Frank Janszoon van Dijk feels total freedom whereby time is no longer essential. “To me, art is timeless. It surpasses the outside and reaches the universal where people of all kinds connect.”

With ‘Colortypes’, Frank Janszoon van Dijk gives new meaning to the art of printing. Books have become motionless objects where content no longer matters. What remains is an inner reaction to the printed matter. The cross-cut slices of books determine the end product in combination with the feeling Frank experiences during the creative process.

By using different colors, oil paint, and 24 carat gold foil, seemingly identical reliefs give varying moods. Using the same parameters, Frank Janszoon van Dijk is able to make the onlooker experience many different feelings, like openness or security. Certain conditions like...
