Candida Slater

I am an artist working in paint, collage and print. I bring to all these different fields the same artist’s eye. I have a studio in Wimbledon Art Studios.
The underlying theme of my work is the fragile balance between chaos and order and the ephemeral and subjective nature of reality. This is the source of energy in my abstract paintings and of humour, social comment and fluid states in my prints.
I paint monochromes, using subtle shades of blue, black, cream and ochre to create textures, shapes and balances. I also love the emotional power of deep, saturated colours. I am particularly influenced by Constable, Turner, the Abstract Expressionists and the Colour Field artists, but I have loved art all my life, so inspiration comes from a wide experience. I sell my paintings online through Saatchi Art, direct from my studio and at the Wimbledon Art Fair. My fine art prints are available from my website.
I currently have three series of prints:
1. Reasons to be Happy, gently satirical works in which I use traditional art to comment on the modern world. Inspired by Matisse and Banksy, for these works my scissors are my paintbrush, and I use cut and found images to create unique works of art.
