Carlotta Adriaansz is a Dutch contemporary artist whose paintings explore the psychology of transformation.

Rather than painting portraits, she constructs psychological spaces in which identity, resilience and emotional change become visible. Working at the intersection of figurative realism and expressive abstraction, she combines classical craftsmanship with a contemporary visual language that invites viewers to recognize something of themselves.

Her paintings often begin with anonymous female figures, yet they are never about a particular person. They become mirrors for universal experiences: moments of loss, resilience, healing, awakening and rediscovery. Layers of oil and acrylic paint, expressive textures and carefully controlled composition create works that reveal new emotional nuances the longer they are observed.

Before becoming an artist, Adriaansz studied Architecture at Delft University of Technology and the University of Illinois at Chicago. This architectural background continues to influence her work through spatial composition, balance and structural thinking. Her technical foundation in painting began at the age of twelve under Italian painter Franco Soro and was further refined through advanced contemporary re...

'Academic craftsmanship provides the structure; artistic freedom gives the work its emotional voice.'

Carlotta Adriaansz's artistic journey began at the age of twelve under the mentorship of Italian painter Franco Soro, whose work was rooted in the Florentine tradition of contemporary figurative painting. Rather than treating academic realism as an artistic destination, Soro embraced its timeless principles—anatomical accuracy, the observation of light, composition and craftsmanship—as the technical foundation for creating contemporary art. This philosophy profoundly shaped Adriaansz's own artistic education, providing a disciplined visual language that continues to underpin her work today.

This approach closely reflects Pablo Picasso's well-known philosophy: "Learn the rules like a professional, so you can break them like an artist." Throughout her career, Adriaansz has embraced this idea. Academic principles provide the structure, while artistic freedom allows her to explore psychological transformation, emotion and identity. Rather than being constrained by technical perfection, she uses it as a foundation for expressive contemporary painting.

Alongside her artistic education, Adriaansz pursued a degree in Architecture at Del...

Carlotta Adriaansz has exhibited her work internationally in both solo and group exhibitions, steadily building an audience of collectors interested in contemporary figurative painting and psychological realism.

In 2024, her work was presented in Visions in Motion in London, followed by Whispers of Wonder in Paris, where her paintings were exhibited alongside an international selection of contemporary artists. During the same period, her work was also featured at several online exhibitions.

During the summer of 2025, she presented her first solo exhibition, Awakening, in the historic artists' town of Brielle, The Netherlands. The exhibition brought together the complete Awakening collection, introducing visitors to a cohesive body of work exploring psychological transformation, identity and emotional resilience.

Later that year, Adriaansz was selected to exhibit at the Qatar International Art Festival in Doha, where her work was introduced to collectors and curators from across the Middle East and beyond. Following this exhibition, discussions were initiated for a future gallery exhibition in Doha, reflecting the growing international interest in her work.

Today, her paintings are held in private collections in Europe, while n...
