My work is a compulsive and obsessive production through which
I seek to give visual form to repressed emotions and anxieties.
I focus on the physical and psychological scaring of the body, hold up a mirror, bring to the surface that which is locked away and secret to create a visual dialogue of personal reflection.
By looking above and below the surface, peeling back the layers and bringing the memories and anxieties into the light, I work towards resolution, although complete resolution can never be achieved as memory is never dependable in its true form, as it constantly evolves due to us constantly projecting onto it and therefore influencing it and producing a reconstruction.
My work can be said to be autobiographical, but to a point where that too can be reconstruction or fictional. I explore my childhood, family background, compulsions and conditioning, Iooking at the knots and mass tangles related to the family unit and its dynamics, to the role and position I play within the constellation of my family.
From an early age we are taught to repress our perceptions into common acceptance in order to fit within the cultural and social reality. The work seeks to break down those conditionings in myself and others.
