Caroline Lasnier

I start from photos and sketches taken on the spot of living models in seaside resorts. The beach is only a pretext to paint.
The subject is painting.
Each step is important and must be lived. The beginning is as important as the end. I'm looking for a fresh painting, an exaltation by color, luminosity or value. Something that is not neutral. I'm not looking for the beautiful picture but the just, just like a writer: the precise word with all its verve.
My paintings are places of arrest, of crystallization of my memories.
Very fixed, they speak only of movements. The moment is suspended, interrupted, the gesture frozen, paused, awaiting an uncertain future. They restore moving bodies that end up being blurred, the body being here while being there.
Elements, movements, I want you to be in the scene to include the viewer; let him be in it just as I am.
I work in layers. I start with a background then I begin to place my characters. Then, I let my imagination run wild while structuring my composition and in the end I find a story mixing existing and invented people in imagined stories.
Through this confrontation, each observer can then invent their own story.
