About Cat Tesla

My work includes both ethereal landscapes and abstract designs. I begin my mornings with meditation and then to my studio to paint.

Tesla’s "Chrysalis Series" is an abstraction of nature done in oil and mixed media. The resulting smaller paintings are windows looking outward, while the larger paintings are abstract nature-scapes you can walk right into.

Cat retired from a career working in human genetics to become a full-time international artist. Early in Tesla’s genetics career she began her practice of yoga, hiking, and mindful meditation. It was inevitable that Mother Nature would become Tesla’s muse.

My meditation landscape series are soft ethereal works done in layers of acrylic and oil glazes. This series creates a sense of place, rather than a literal place: a feeling of expansiveness, sky, earth, water.

During the 2020 pandemic, Tesla began to focus on non-objective paintings and began her "Feeling Good" Series. Gestural marks, line, shape, color, this series evokes joy & free expression. “As a glass half-full type of person, my abstract series of paintings expresses my joy and gratitude for each and every day.” I used painting as a way to anchor myself and remain positive and hopeful that life would eventually get better. I knew one day we would all be feeling good again.

Everyone has gifts from the Creator. I believe it is the duty of each to share our gifts with the planet. My paintings are a brave look inward – revealing what lies beneath both literally and spiritually. Yogi’s call it the “divine flame” – the spark that motivates you in life. In Buddha’s words, “Look within, thou art the Buddha”, while Jesus taught us that “The kingdom of heaven is within you”. For me, painting is the most life affirming thing to do.
