Chih Yi Chou

Elaine Chou (Chou Chih-Yi) is a Taiwan-based abstract artist working with recycled paper, paper pulp, dried acrylic paint, plaster, ink, and rice paper.

Her practice centres on healing, fragility, and the second life of materials. Each material carries meaning: paper pulp reshaped from discarded fragments holds memory; dried acrylic becomes sediment, a quiet protest against disposability; plaster records the process of cracking and repair; ink spreads like emotion — never fully erased; rice paper, soft yet resilient, bears the weight of layered marks without breaking.

Her recent series — Dryness, Balcony, Rebuild & Renew, and Extended Lifespan — explore emotional architecture: the texture of being stuck, the quiet return of light, and what it means to let something begin again.

Chou has exhibited across Taiwan, including solo and group exhibitions at Pier 2 Art Center, MAISON ACME (former Taipei Story Museum), Grand Hyatt Taipei, and Camden Image Gallery, London.
