Charles Egornu is a British contemporary visual artist of Nigerian heritage whose richly textured paintings explore the emotional realities of the human experience. Working primarily in oil, while incorporating acrylic and mixed media, he creates figurative works that bridge social observation and contemporary expression.
His practice centres on themes of identity, resilience, memory, belonging and human dignity. Rather than presenting fixed narratives, Egornu creates paintings that invite viewers to pause, reflect and form their own emotional connection with each work. Every painting is conceived as an open dialogue, where personal interpretation becomes an essential part of the viewing experience.
A defining characteristic of his work is its distinctive tactile surface. Through a carefully developed process of layering paint and mixed materials, Egornu constructs richly textured compositions that become an integral part of the narrative itself. The physical surface reflects the complexity of lived experience, suggesting that every life, like every painting, is shaped by layers of memory, struggle, hope and transformation.
