Chau Thuy was born in Lam Dong, Vietnam. He has lived in the USA since 1980. He graduated with a BSEE degree from the University of Louisiana in 1986.
Since 2004 he has been involved with UVSA Tet and participated at Youth Leader Boot Camp and many other Vietnamese Youth events. He is an author of books about calligraphy Bút Họa and Impressionistic Calligraphy.
Chau Thuy’s passion for calligraphy is rooted in Vietnamese culture and history. The idea of shared humanity is reflected in his art series of philosophical aphorisms. His artworks were exhibited at SOKA University, California State University, Fullerton, California State University, Dominguez Hills, USC Pacific Asia Museum, and Orange County Center for Contemporary Art, and many Vietnamese venues. His most recognized artwork Viet was exhibited at Sacramento Capitol.
Over a decade of research and collecting information about Boat People and Vietnamese refugees resulted in historical fictionalized novel Vực Xoáy, published in 2015. The novel detailed the heartbreaking love story of the Boat People. After a well-received Vietnamese version he released an English version under the title Bloodstained Sea, published in 2019.
