Husam Chaya is a Lebanese-born Canadian sculptor based in Montréal, Québec. Working in marble, stone and stainless steel since 1999, he has completed more than fourteen public and institutional works in Lebanon, the United Arab Emirates, China, France and Canada.
His practice centres on material research, form and process. Each work grows out of direct engagement with the material, exploring the relationship between gesture, scale and the space a sculpture inhabits. His stainless steel installation Echo, a sound-responsive work of nine steel sentinels, was presented in Moscow in 2017 by the Moscow Public Art Fund with Saatchi Art.
Chaya trained in sculpture at the Institute of Fine Arts in Beirut, then in prototyping at the École des Mines in Paris, where he brought engineering methods and digital fabrication into his studio practice. After years working between Beirut, Dubai and Paris, he now works from his studio in Montréal, where he is preparing Équilibre en mouvement, an exhibition planned for 2027. He is a professional member of RAAV, affiliated with CARFAC.
