Artist Biography
Cheryl Traub-Adler is a South African artist and curator whose work explores the shifting relationships between image, material, landscape and the more-than-human world. Her interdisciplinary approach draws on painting, drawing, textiles and mixed media to investigate how we perceive, inhabit and imagine our environments.
Working between abstraction and figuration, her work brings together organic forms, symbolic structures and speculative worlds. Fabric, pigment, line and surface become sites of encounter, where personal experience intersects with broader questions of ecology, embodiment, mythology and the conditions of contemporary life.
Alongside her artistic work, Traub-Adler has an extensive curatorial background, with interests spanning aesthetics, museum histories, pedagogy and the structures through which art is produced, encountered and valued. Her work is informed by an ongoing engagement with the possibilities of art as a space for critical inquiry, material experimentation and new ways of seeing.
