What happens when lost relics are not left behind but transformed, a remix of history and identity in vivid, tactile form.

My practice breathes new life into discarded antiques and sacred objects, weaving intricate patterns onto surfaces once fixed in meaning. Each mark is both reverence and rebellion. I select materials with history, abandoned saints, worn furniture, fragments of spiritual spaces and coax them toward the present, overlaying with geometric and organic pattern work that disrupts and animates. These are not just objects reborn; they’re stories unlocked. The work stands in liminal space, where past and present, tradition and innovation, intersect. For me, each sculpture is a tiny act of resurrection: a queering of sacred forms, a reclamation of narrative, a subtle ripple of personal experience. Disability isn’t concealed, it’s woven into process, visible in care and attention.

These layers invite viewers not to observe, but to enter. To see their own reflections in the interplay of light, color, memory, and myth.

Cheyenne Sandoval (b. 1999) is an American-based interdisciplinary artist exploring transformation, resilience, and faith through the radical reuse of found objects. Sandoval’s practice foregrounds identity, labor, and accessible art making, with work exhibited in both solo and group contexts.
