My work is about weaving the gap between painting and drawing as well as working with abstraction and figuration as one rather than opposites.
The influences for my work are my own personal experiences, as well as the dark side of human emotions. As humans, we all have experiences we carry around, but often times they are dismissed as the past. Many of the subjects I choose to portray have had a traumatic history. In my work I feel compelled to remind viewers of the subject’s existence. It is also as a way of contemplating the modern day social issues.
My pieces all vary in the amount of time it takes for me to accomplish my finish result. Often times, I find myself working into the early morning hours, trying to get exactly what I want out of a piece. It is normal for one of my pieces to take up to a week to complete, when I am averaging 6 to 7 hours on it per night. The attention to detail is very important to me, which is why so much time is spent on each and every one of them.
Being a self-taught artist has given me the freedom to find my own path through the visual arts with a mixture of mediums.
I currently work with this materials, canvas, lithograph paper, water color paper, raw paper, cardboard, acrylic, oil, watercolor, archival ink, permanent markers, color pencils.
