Born and raised in the North East of England.
Currently living in North London.
Taught to crochet, knit, sew aged 3 by mother.
Excelled in needlecraft and textiles in school.
A love of recycling allows me to build a wealth of treasures which inspires me in my work.
Textiles are organically grown over time, where new finds will inspire new direction, some having taken years to produce.
Themed works include abstract flower design, abstract seasonals, religion, India, nostalgia and childhood, womanhood and sexuality (including breast cancer). It is the fabrics and embellishments themselves which inspires the development of a basic design.
In addition I write my own poetry and use this as an overlay in hand embroidery to convey to the viewer a depth of emotion to be shared, bringing personal experiences to enhance the structural makeup of the work.
My textiles are an extension of self and as such provides a real insight into the artist on a deeply personal level, eg the cancer works (lumpectomy and mastectomy).
Inspired by art and textile teachers throughout my school life from a young age
Self taught at home as I developed my skills from the traditional techniques already learned.
Having no formal training beyond A level I have developed my own direction, finding a freedom in abstraction.
I have had no formal training in technology (computers, photoshop, social platforms, photography), teaching myself to create my website as an online portfolio.
My series of prints were created from detailed photographs of textiles, manipulating colour using photoshop to provide the colour range per image.
No exhibitions to date. I am seeking avenues through which to exhibit works online.
