Sebastian Noethlichs

Sebastian Noethlichs is an abstract artist working from his studio in Sofia, Bulgaria, under the name ChromaMatter. His mixed-media works on canvas and sculptural panel combine saturated acrylics with sculpted impasto, faceted triangular mosaic and tensioned copper thread, building surfaces that shift as light and the viewer move.
Alongside his studio practice, Sebastian has spent his professional career in energy, investment and emerging markets, developing and financing power and infrastructure projects across Europe, Africa and Latin America. That exposure runs through the work: to the physical systems that generate and move energy, to raw materials and the places they come from, and to constant travel between very different cultures and landscapes. Grids and networks become lines of copper thread, mineral and metal become gilded crusts, and fragmented geometry holds order and disruption in balance.
His palette of deep blues, teals and violets, lit by gold, reflects a single question: the point at which colour acquires weight and substance.
