About Cis Bakker

My love for sunlight and cracks in soil, the beauty in the unnoted; all this and more started my work. They are the ingredients that help express the power of imagination, vulnerability.

Not following one strict method or -ism; borrowing from different styles and techniques as well as my awe for nature and love for music and literature, the main concept of painting, drawing or making collages for me is experimenting and storytelling through an internal dialogue. Reacting to a sometimes haphazard starting point, like found objects, an observation or vague intuitive perception or presentiment, is a friendly struggle with existing or fictional opposites like abstraction/figuration, clarity/ambiguity, etc., and a vehicle to create visual puzzles that are intriguing and layered. They are inviting the viewer to reflect.

Chronological development as a human being is reflected in my work. One work gives opportunity for the next to appear. My personal conviction is that there is value in constant reinvention, transformation if you will; the necessity to search for solutions and give voice to the tension between the universal and the subjective.

In recent acrylic and wax crayon drawings I integrate several lines of work from all previous years. To work with relish, curious about the-not-yet-here, and submission to faith. Art is vital to mankind, to reflect and grow.
