Clarissa Poedjiono

I use paintings to metabolize scenes through my memory. Scenes that are reassembled through lens of nostalgia to places in which I acted only as an observer. It is a reflection and exploration of observation in face of blissful scenes, creating tension that is to be expected in the state delineated by distance.

My background in software engineering cultivated a methodical approach to analyze layers of my emotions as a fundamental construct. I work from photographs that I mainly take myself to serve as a guide for compositions of my work. I paint scenes to build a specific environment within this construct in through my brushstrokes and colors.
The resulting painting shows how they persisted within my memory, serving a disruptive layer to a more realistic composition. This whole process now informs how I reconstruct scenes through memory, allowing me to approach painting as both intuitive and methodical.
