I am an installation artist engaged in juxtaposing image and text in work that deals with the intersection of public and private space. I make work that invites the viewer's participation.
On the Edge, a temporary installation on Nicollet Island in Minneapolis, Minnesota, melded together elements of the character of the island as a regional park and the acrimonious discussion over a private high schools proposal to build a large athletic complex next to their school building. I produced a newspaper for walkers and joggers that was crafted from interviews with people who articulated a spectrum of opinions on the DeLaSalle stadium issue. The publication was distributed for three weeks from newsstands painted fluorescent orange, an international color of distress. Readers were invited to deposit their responses to the land use controversy into a slot at the top of each orange structure. These comments were incorporated into a second publication.
