I started painting in 2012 after working in sculpture since the 1980's. My earliest inspirations for sculpture were Jacob Epstein, Henri Gaudier-Brzeska, Barbara Hepworth, Constantin Brancusi and the wide range of sculptures found in the British Museum.
I model my sculptures in clay and cast them in plaster. My sculptures are taken from the figure sometimes simplifying the forms close to abstraction. I also work from natural forms inspired by the structure of shells, where there seems to be an infinite variety of possibilities.
My paintings are mostly taken from my local landscape. I have been inspired by the landscapes of artists like Gustav Klimt and Paul Cezanne. I live on the outskirts of London and am fortunate enough to have woodland nearby. It's within these woods that I take details of the nature around me and of how it encompasses me. I also capture portraits of the trees which stand out from the crowd or are paraded in local parkland.
1983 -1986 BA (Hons) Degree in Fine Art, Leicester Polytechnic.
1981-1983 TEC Diploma in General Art and Design, Southwark College, London.
