It is impossible to obtain a complete picture of anything in life. Things remain unseen, words remain unsaid, and thoughts remain hidden. Everything is at once straightforward, yet multi-faceted and complex, with depths that we often only sense but can never fully understand. It is up to ourselves to complete the picture from whatever information we are presented with, and in that way the external becomes internalized.

My art combines the things we know (realism) with the things we don’t know (abstraction) coexisting in a world of emotion (expressionist mark-making and color). Symbolism often plays a part, particularly text, which excites a part of the brain beyond imagery. Its similar to my passion for playing jazz, where I improvise over a motif, exploring alternatives, and pushing it away from its starting point. Recognizable, but new.
Working in layers enables me to create an evolving image that continually captures time through depth. I find oil paint the perfect medium for my intentions, enabling a conversation to take place between traditional and contemporary art, resulting in art pieces that feel alive and express a psychological reality.
