About my painting
I use my painting as a way to express my feelings. The themes are essentially the maritime landscapes of the Basque Coast. Very often the inspiration for my paintings comes from a peaceful walk never too far from the ocean. Contrary to the impressionists, I need to paint in the tranquility of my studio always with music. I think that both painting and music are intimately connected. Music helps me to revive and render the invisible: emotion
A tireless admirer of the sky as a source of light and a delicate, ever changing chromatic interplay with the sea, I let myself be absobed
by this infinite space and try to understand its different colours by the moment. Nature awakens in me a great respect and tremendous admiration, Those are the reasons why the sky is the main theme of my work, It provides me with a Deep sense of well being and I try to share that emotion through my paintings.
In Kant’s words: “A painting must be the echo of the state of the painter’s soul”. Alberto Pizarro, an art critic, describes my paintings as “a plastic anxiolitic”.
I was born and raised in Bilbao, Spain, where i followed studies of Political Science at the University of Deusto, getting my degree in 1985. I moved to Grenoble, France, and obrained a Diploma in Spanish at the University of letters of Grenoble in 1988 and enrolled in the Grenoble School of Fine Arts.
In 2004 I returned to my homeland, the Basque Country, where I live by the sea. I’ve been teaching painting in various association for several years , but nowadays I just Paint. I am a great admirer of english landscapers, especially, W. Turner and John Constable “The man in the clouds”, and french impressionists especially Claude Monet and Eugéne Boudin, King of the skies, for the prodigious magic of air and wáter in his paintings.
