Cristina Del Barco

Cristina Del Barco (Madrid, Spain) is a contemporary artist whose work resides at the intersection of film noir, neo-pictorialism, and fine art photography. Her unique gaze was forged through a nomadic academic and creative journey, studying Cinematography in the vibrant cultural hubs of Buenos Aires and Paris, before returning to Spain to consolidate her studio practice. This international triangle has imbued her work with a sophisticated, cross-cultural aesthetic that blends European classical elegance with the raw, emotional intensity of Latin American storytelling.

Through a masterful control of light—a legacy of her cinematic roots—Del Barco constructs frames that possess the narrative weight of a masterpiece. Her evolution from the existentialist black-and-white of her early series to the saturated, nocturnal, and vibrant palettes found in projects such as Be My Muse and LUTO, reveals a deliberate shift toward a more painterly and evocative language. In her universe, the body is presented with radical autonomy, exploring themes of identity and desire through the lens of a "never-filmed movie."
