Dancheong Artist | South Korea

Hyeyoung Cho is a contemporary artist who specializes in Puzzle-Dancheong — a modern reinterpretation of traditional Korean decorative painting. Drawing from the centuries-old art of dancheong, Cho deconstructs classical motifs into modular compositions that invite reconfiguration and reinterpretation. Her work explores the fluidity of perception, the cycles of life, and the harmony of color and form.

Cho was the award-winning artist at the 1st K-Women Art Contest & Paris Art Fair (2023), hosted by Womennews. She has represented Korea at the Silk Road International Tourism Expo in Xi’an, China (2015), and was an invited artist for the International Congress of Mathematicians in Seoul (2014). Her work has also been featured in major exhibitions such as the Gyeongju World Culture Expo (2011) and the Hanpyeong Gallery Invitational in Gwangju.

Her solo exhibitions include “Falling in Love with Colors” at Gallery is, and “Puzzle-Dancheong” at the Kyung-In Museum of Fine Art, both located in Insa-dong, Seoul.
She currently works out of her studio “Modern Times of Dancheong”.

Self-taught in the traditional Korean art of dancheong, I merge heritage with modernity, creating unique interpretations that bridge the past and present.
“I did not attend an art school nor study under a formal teacher. My practice is self-taught, rooted in personal exploration and deep respect for the traditions of dancheong.”
