Melanie Rundel-Milzner

I am a spiritual artist inspired by mythical figures and stories.
I avoid rigid religious categorizations, drawing instead upon a blend of influences—such as Buddhist, Christian, and Pagan traditions.
Each of my works is carefully conceived and crafted to convey an energy that is both loving and thought-provoking.

The sculptures begin as hand-modeled wax figures, which are subsequently cast in bronze.
For my photographs, I place these sculptures within natural settings, creating a unique fusion of sculpture and photography.

My bronze sculptures are typically small—around 10 cm in height—while my photographs are printed on stretched canvas and generally measure 60–80 cm for exhibitions.
I also enjoy working with natural materials such as amber, bone, teeth, and various types of wood.

Melanie Rundel-Milzner (born 1976 in Wertheim am Main) lives and works in Varel as a sculptor and object artist.
Her artistic practice centers on the question of how memories, myths, and cultural symbols can be made visible through material and form. Her sculptures and installations explore themes such as transience, transformation, and identity, combining archaic imagery with a contemporary formal language.
She has been working as a freelance artist since 2003. Starting with works in silver and stone, she has continuously evolved her practice, incorporating materials such as jade, bronze, bone, and precious metals.
Study trips to Ireland, Scotland, Brittany, Malta, and Eastern Europe deepened her engagement with mythology, religious symbolism, and imagery rooted in cultural history. These influences continue to shape her artistic work to this day.
Since moving to Varel in 2022, Melanie Rundel-Milzner has been active in the art scene of northwestern Germany. She is a member of BBK Oldenburg, GEDOK Lower Saxony/Hanover, Kunstraum Varel, and the Deutsche Totentanzvereinigung e. V. (German Dance of Death Association). Her work is also listed in the artist database and the Lower Saxony Estate Archive (Nachlassarchiv Niedersachsen).
